Ochre Sea Star

Sometimes referred to as the purple sea star – this fellow was attached to underpinning of the ferry pier. You can notice the suction cup tube feet along the top edge. Their color depends on water temperature during youth – they can be orange, brown or even reddish brown. The Ochre Sea Star is a keystone species of this intertidal zone.
