  1. Very cool, Dawn. A wonderful contrast of the romanticism of a surface read of the image, and the challenges to that (and other unexamined social cliches) when you take it to the granular level. Either that, or rather it’s a fun shot based on the element of surprise at the unexpected. It’s also pretty cool compositionally.
Did you get a new camera? You’ve got some great detail there.

    • Hi Greg – nice to hear from you. 🙂 Thanks for the always thoughtful comments and observations – let me see if I can give you some answers.

The top image was shot in pano with my iPhone, the bottom with my lumix that has done a lazarus and returned from the dead. I couldn’t be happier. It’s like my best friend returning from a long trip away.
I was hoping the man would be framed in the curve of the pano and was pretty excited when the camera agreed. This shot looks out from Langley across the Saratoga Passage to Camano Island with the mainland in the background. It is such a beautiful part of the world it is hard to screw up a shot.
As to the “why” of the shot – I saw the man first and wondered about him being homeless. I’m not sure I would have taken the shot either if he was facing me. He really is the shot as far as I was concerned. The viewer can imagine any outcome for this man – as indeed he may be doing at that very moment dreaming off into the beauty of nature.
