Yes, timing matters … as does location. I took the shots, so it shouldn’t amaze me, but that rock in the water at top is the same rock (Haystack Rock) that you get a close-up on in the blog just above this image. I’d just been down there, looking right at it, shooting it. It just feels kind of weird. I don’t know why.

There’s a really interesting geometry to this. The bowl of the small bay in the foreground, the larger bowl of the larger bay in general and then the wide-angle distortion of the clouds also creates a subtle sense of bowl-shaped geometry. Very nice.
