Bob Aeckerle

I met Bob at the Cayuga County Fair in Weedsport, N.Y. Bob and his wife, Carole, own and operate a milking goat farm about 45 minutes outside of Rochester. Three weeks before these photos were taken Bob had suffered a stroke. This was his first time back at the fairs with his goats.

French Alpine milking goats watch the competition stroll in at the Cayuga County Fair in Weedsport, N.Y. The county hosts a fair every year.

Bob’s granddaughter sports the first ribbon of the day. “I’ve been to thousands of competitions, and I’ve only not placed in two,” he says.

Michael J. Schneider (in white) and Bob, old friends, greet each other. This weekend they have been one another’s only competition.

“We think of them as our family pets, our friends,” says Bob.

Bob Aeckerle began raising goats 35 years ago as part of his youngest daughter’s 4H project. Before that the family had horses. “Goats are much more affectionate, especially because we bottle feed all the babies,” he says.

Bob packs up the trailer and prepares to head home after a long weekend of competition.

  1. Thank you, you took some wonderful pictures of my family. We have been in the business since 1986 when I started in 4-Han my parents have kept it a hobby all these years and have done an amazing job in the breeding of their goats making them one of the best breeders in the state.
